Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 17: Rakeshwar Lall, State President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti (HRS), has formally appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, highlighting the urgent need for renovation and restoration of the Mahatma Gandhi statue located near Marina Park.
In the letter submitted to the Lt. Governor’s office, Mr. Lall expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the statue, which stands as a symbol of national pride and historical significance. The inspection conducted by HRS revealed visible cracks on the base and backside of the statue, severe rusting of structural elements, and significant peeling of paint—leaving the monument in a neglected and undignified state.
As an organization devoted to the protection and promotion of India’s cultural and national icons, Hindu Rashtra Shakti has requested the immediate intervention of the authorities to:
• Conduct a detailed structural assessment of the statue.
• Undertake repair of all cracks and rust-affected areas.
• Repaint and restore the statue with high-quality, weather-resistant materials.
• Repair and maintain the surrounding sitting area and benches.
Given the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, HRS emphasized that the matter demands urgent priority in the public interest. The organization has also requested a clear action plan and timeline for the restoration process and looks forward to a response from the administration regarding the steps being taken.
The Hindu Rashtra Shakti reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national heritage and ensuring dignified representation of India’s historical icons in public spaces.
