Port Blair, June 14: First Time a delegation of 39 representatives from Andaman and Nicobar Islands Scheduled Tribes (P.V.T.G.) reached Delhi on 12th June 2023, marking a significant step towards promoting tribal pride and cultural identity. On that Andaman & Nicobar Tribal Research and Training Institute (ANTRI) and Tribal Welfare Department arranged three Day tour program in that group of delegation, including 19 Great Andamanese and 20 Onges, attended the Special Scheduled Tribes Conference (P.V.T.G. Meet) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where they have witnessed the honor of meeting the Hon’ble President of India, Mrs. Draupadi Murmu.
The Hon’ble President of India, Mrs. Droupadi Murmu interacted with members of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During the event, She acknowledged that many of them were venturing out of their villages for the first time and emphasized that each individual present represented their entire community. She urged them to share their experiences with their community-members and inform them about the welfare schemes of the government. As many as 1,500 members from 75 PVTGs from 19 states and UTs attended the event.
The three-day Delhi visit of people from these communities also included a trip to Parliament, where Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla hosted them in the Central Hall of old Parliament House.
