Port Blair, Jan 16: A family of a septuagenarian that has two disabled children, is in a state of starvation due to lack of support from the side of Andaman Administration.
As per reports, since the death of his son, the aged person Mr Nitai Biswas, a 75 years, a resident of Cuthbert Bay area of Middle Andaman is struggling to manage family’s daily expenses and is running pillar to post, seeking help.
According to sources, the septuagenarian is presently not entitled to any social welfare schemes like old age pension and Ration card benefits because his finger prints has not been recognized for AADHAR CARD even after his 07 attempts as a result of which he and his family is in the state of starvation.
The President, Island Protection Forum, Mr MT Mustafa after learning about the situation of the old age person, immediately came for his rescue and has donated Rs 2500 to the person and also bought 40 kg rice for his family.
“We can’t let anyone starve and till the time the family is not receiving any support from the administration, we will continue our support,” MT Mustafa said.
Mr Mustafa further said that it’s not the mistake of the septuagenarian if his finger print is not recognized by the machine for AADHAR card and hence he must not be denied from his rights to get old age pension and ration card benefits.
The saddest part of the story is that the son of Mr Nitai Biswas, Late Bidyaranjan Biswas, who was the only bread earner of the family, died 06 months ago in a boat tragedy but till now Mr. Mr Nitai Biswas has not received any compensation from the Labour Department and the case is pending there since last 03 months.
Mr Mustafa has now taken up this matter of Mr Nitai Biswas, the 75 year old man, with the Lt Governor in detail, by addressing him a letter on dated 13th January, 2020, in which Mr. Mustafa has requested the Lt. Governor to direct the concerned agencies to help the old resident in getting benefits of social welfare schemes, for which he is eligible
