Port Blair, Sept 24: Indian Coast Guard evacuated 01 sick crew from Vanuatu registered research/survey vessel “MGS Sagar” at 0210 hrs on 24 Sep 19 off Diglipur. The vessel whilst carrying out geographical survey west of Landfall Island (approximately 80 NM away from Diglipur) reported 01 Russian crew namely Mr. Kolchugin Mikhail, age-34, suffering from epileptic seizure with high fever and discontinuity in cerebral blood flow, need immediate shore medical assistance for stabilisation.
In a quest to ensure safety of mariners at sea, the alert and vigilant operators at Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Port Blair, deftly coordinated the medical emergency aboard ‘MGS Sagar’. The vessel was directed to proceed with best speed to Diglipur where ICGS C-415 in a midnight operation evacuated the patient amidst rough seas.
The Medical Officer onboard ICG ship provided necessary medical aid enroute. On arrival, ICG staff at Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 9, in coordination with local agent shifted the patient to local Health Centre. The patient was provided with first aid at primary health Centre at Diglipur and was later, shifted to GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair at 1030 hrs on 24 Sep 19 by helicopter for further specialized medical treatment. The condition of the patient is reported to be stable.
Such successful SAR mission and immediate evacuation of injured crew has again proved professional acumen and unabated commitment of Indian Coast Guard towards safeguarding precious lives at sea in all spheres of operations befitting with the motto of Indian Coast Guard “Vayam Rakshama – We Protect”, a communique received from CG PRO.
