Baratang, June 16: Lack of Aadhar Cards is taking a serious toll on the resident of Baratang in Middle Andaman. Several residents of the region have been left devoid of the benefits of government schemes like LPG subsidy and are also facing problems in bank related tasks.
According to PRI members, the A & N Administration conducted just one camp in last one year for enrolment of the residents of Baratang under the Aadhar scheme of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and several villagers of the area are yet to be enrolled under the Aadhar to avail benefits of different government schemes.
“While some residents have obtained their Aadhar cards during the enrolment camp held last year, many others have not yet been enrolled for the 12-digit identity which has been made mandatory by the government to avail benefits of several schemes,” said some residents.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, Zilla Parishad member of Baratang, Mr Algar Swamy said that several residents without Aadhar cards have been facing problems in getting their works done particularly those related to the Civil Supplies Department and banking institutions.
“The Administration should immediately depute a special team to Baratang to hold a special camp to enroll the left-out population under the Aadhar scheme,” he said.
