Sri Vijaya Puram, June 19: The body of 25-year-old Deepak Kujur, who was dragged into a creek by a crocodile in Mile Tilak under Ferrargunj Tehsil, was recovered at around 4:00 a.m. today following an intensive overnight search operation conducted by the Forest Department, police personnel, and local residents.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. Sunil Kumar, Pradhan of Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat, said that the victim had come under attack on the morning of June 18 while attempting to retrieve his dinghy boat, which had become stuck in the creek. The crocodile suddenly attacked and pulled him underwater before anyone could come to his rescue.
According to Mr. Kumar, Forest Department teams had placed nets at various points across the creek as part of the search and monitoring operation. It was in one of these nets that the victim’s body was found early this morning.
He further informed that the recovered body was in a severely mutilated condition, with both hands and both legs missing. The remains were subsequently handed over for legal formalities and post-mortem examination.
Despite continuous efforts by the Forest Department, the crocodile responsible for the attack has not yet been captured. Search and monitoring operations are continuing in the area, and Forest officials remain deployed at the site in an attempt to locate and trap the reptile.
The incident has triggered fear and concern among residents of Mile Tilak and nearby villages, who have urged authorities to take additional measures to ensure public safety in crocodile-prone areas.
