Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 30: The unidentified man whose body was recovered from a waterlogged creek area along the road leading to Marine Drive from Chouldari main road (NH4) on Saturday afternoon has been identified as Mr. Baranabas, sources said. Originally from Jharkhand, Mr. Baranabas had reportedly been living in the Chouldari area for more than 35 years and worked as a domestic-help.
According to police sources, the deceased had a history of high blood pressure. During the preliminary examination of the body and the area, a broken liquor bottle was reportedly found in his pocket.
Preliminary information suggests that Mr. Baranabas may have been sitting on a roadside culvert near the sea before apparently losing his balance and falling into the area below. He is suspected to have landed headfirst on a concrete surface, potentially sustaining serious head injuries. However, police have not officially confirmed the cause of death.
The exact circumstances will be established after the post-mortem examination and other necessary investigations. Police are examining all available information to determine whether the death was accidental or occurred under any other circumstances.
The body was reportedly spotted in the water at around 12:30 pm on Saturday, following which local residents alerted the police. Police are continuing their investigation, while further details are awaited after completion of the post-mortem and other formal procedures.
