Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 01: As the world comes together to observe World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd, the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, reaffirms its commitment towards building an inclusive and supportive society for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological and developmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, and behaviour. It is important to understand that autism is not a disease, but a unique way of experiencing the world—reflecting the diversity of human minds. Over the years, the global focus has gradually shifted from mere awareness to meaningful acceptance, emphasizing inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunities for persons with autism.
In the geographically distinct region of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, raising awareness about autism presents unique challenges such as limited access to specialized services and delayed identification in remote areas. Despite these constraints, sustained efforts are being made to strengthen early intervention, therapeutic support, and inclusive education.
The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Sri Vijaya Puram, under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, and with an invaluable support from Andaman & Nicobar Administration continues to play a pivotal role by providing early identification, therapeutic interventions, parent counselling, inclusive education support, and outreach programmes across the Islands.
On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day 2026, CRC, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has planned to conduct a special programme in collaboration with the Rotary Club, Sri Vijaya Puram on 2nd April 2026 at 3.00 PM in the Seminar Hall of CRC.
As a precursor to the main event, a series of engaging activities including painting competition, talent show, storytelling sessions, and various adaptive games were conducted at CRC. These activities witnessed enthusiastic participation from children and aimed at nurturing creativity, confidence, and social interaction. The winners of these events will be felicitated and awarded prizes during the programme.
Mrs. Sumithamol. S, Director, CRC, A&N Islands, highlighted the importance of early intervention, inclusive practices, and community participation in empowering children with autism, and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to strengthening support systems across the islands.
This year’s theme, “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” highlights the importance of respect, inclusion, and recognition of the abilities and potential of individuals with autism. It calls upon society to move beyond awareness and actively embrace acceptance.
CRC, A&N Islands invites the community to join hands in promoting understanding, breaking stereotypes, and fostering an inclusive environment where every individual is valued and empowered.
Every individual matters. Every voice deserves to be heard. And every life truly has value.
