Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 17: A delegation from Chatham Bridge Ektha Manch met the Director of the Department of Shipping Services (DSS) to highlight several issues impacting daily commuters, especially residents of Bambooflat and Dandupoint. The meeting focused on long-pending demands aimed at improving accessibility and easing travel hardships faced by the public.
During the discussion, the delegation requested the Director to enable online renewal of monthly ferry passes, allowing local residents to complete the process digitally without the need to visit DSS offices. This, they said, would significantly reduce the crowd and inconvenience currently faced at physical counters.
Another key issue raised was the request to permit attendants of ambulance and mortuary patients to carry their two-wheelers on ferries along the Bambooflat–Phoenix Bay route. The delegation noted that many attendants face difficulties in reaching hospitals or mortuaries quickly without a personal vehicle. They urged DSS to allow this facility with proper documentation and verification.
The Ektha Manch representatives also pressed for additional ferry services on the Bambooflat route, citing overcrowding and long waiting hours. In response, the Director assured that the department would make arrangements to introduce extra services to ease the current transportation burden.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the Director reportedly giving assurance that the department would work towards implementing the raised demands at the earliest. The Ektha Manch delegation expressed gratitude for the Director’s prompt attention and cooperative approach.
