Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 25:The Municipal Council has noticed that pigs are being reared within the Municipal limits, including residential areas, and are being allowed to stray in public places. This practice has led to numerous complaints from residents regarding nuisance, obstruction of traffic, and serious concerns for public health and sanitation.
The most vulnerable areas affected by pig nuisance have been identified as Delanipur, Prem Nagar, Goal Ghar, Middle Point, Junglighat, Phoenix Bay, Buniayadabad and Brookshabad. Residents of these localities have repeatedly drawn attention to unhygienic conditions, foul odours, damage to public property, and risks to the health and safety of the community.
The rearing of pigs within municipal limits is not only a violation of the Municipal Bye-Laws, but also poses grave health hazards. Pigs are known carriers of various pathogens and parasites that can spread to humans, such as swine flu, leptospirosis, and tapeworm infections. The presence of pigs near open drains and garbage sites contributes to the spread of flies, mosquitoes, and other vectors, thereby increasing the risk of epidemics like dengue, malaria, and diarrhoeal diseases. The accumulation of waste from Pig Sheds further aggravates these risks by contaminating the local environment.
Apart from public health concerns, stray pigs roaming on roads create traffic hazards, often leading to accidents, congestion, and damage to civic infrastructure. Such practices also lower the quality of life for residents and hinder the collective efforts towards achieving a clean, healthy and liveable city.
In light of these pressing concerns, the Municipal Council has issued the following instructions for strict compliance:
• All pig sheds, pens, or enclosures within residential areas or within the Municipal limits must be removed or relocated to designated pig shed, Brookshabad within 3 days from the date of this press release.
• Pig owners must ensure that their animals do not stray onto public roads, drains, footpaths, vacant plots, or neighbouring premises.
In the event of non-compliance, the Municipal Council shall be constrained to capture, remove, and relocate the pigs to designated sheds at the risk and cost of the owners. The Council shall not be held liable for any loss or damage to the animals during such operations. Violations of these directives will invite suitable action against the owners of pigs in accordance with the Municipal Bye-Laws and other applicable legal provisions.
The Municipal Council appeals to all residents to extend full cooperation in this matter. The general public have been requested to pass the information of the pig owners who rears pigs in the city. Civic responsibility rests not only with the authorities but also with every individual in the community.
This initiative is being undertaken in the larger public interest of safeguarding public health, maintaining traffic safety, and ensuring that the city remains clean and healthy.
