Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 25: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has urged the Administration to take immediate steps to strengthen the newly created Electricity Site Office at Beadnabad.
The MP stated that the new office was established recently in the space provided by the Gram Panchayat at Beadnabad with the purpose of reducing the workload of the existing Birdline Electricity Site Office and ensuring better service to residents of the area. However, he expressed disappointment that the office has not been equipped with field staff, a supervisory officer, vehicle or necessary machinery, and at present is functioning merely as a complaint receiving centre.
Mr. Ray, MP pointed out that the Birdline Site Office, with only one vehicle and limited staff, continues to shoulder the entire burden of a vast jurisdiction covering Ward No. 23, Gram Panchayat Calicut, Birdline, Makhapahad, Burmanallah, and Chidiyatapu. Due to limited manpower and a single vehicle, complaints in far-flung areas often remain unattended for hours, causing serious inconvenience to the public.
During his visit to Ward No. 23, Birdline, along with the Chairman and Secretary of the Municipal Council on 21st September 2025, Mr. Ray personally received several complaints from local residents regarding these hardships. Taking serious note of this, the MP has suggested the following immediate measures to the Administration:
1. Provision of a supervisory officer with sufficient staff to the Beadnabad Site Office, either by diversion from other sections or through outsourcing.
2. Allotment of adequate machinery and one vehicle to the Beadnabad Site Office to promptly attend public complaints and line faults.
3. Clear bifurcation of jurisdiction between the Birdline and Beadnabad Site Offices to ensure effective service delivery.
Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray emphasized that uninterrupted electricity supply is a basic necessity of life and strengthening the Beadnabad Site Office will help streamline operations, reduce overburden on Birdline and provide timely service to the public.
