CHENNAI: The U.S. Consulate General, Chennai recently launched “U.S. At Your School”, a program which offers talks by American diplomats to secondary school students on a wide range of topics. The program gives students a glimpse into American culture, society, politics, and education through the eyes of American diplomats.
As a part of this program, the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai conducted a “U.S. At Your School” program for students of Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sembakkam on Friday, February 22, 2013 on the topic “Multiculturalism/Immigrant Experience in the U.S.”
U.S. Foreign Service Officer, Kris Arvind, an Indian American who is fluent in Tamil spoke to students about his education in the U.S. and why he decided to join the U.S. Foreign Service and work on behalf of his fellow Americans abroad. “Multiculturalism is important because ultimately we are all one race – the human race,” he said. Highlighting that multiculturalism was necessary for everyone to be heard, to participate, and contribute, he remarked, “We never know where the next new or great idea could come from.”
