Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 01: The long-pending demand for reconstruction of the Yeratta Jetty has gained renewed attention, with BJP Nimbutala Mandal President Mr. Venteswar Rao urging the Port Management Board (PMB) to take immediate action in the interest of public safety and better connectivity.
The existing Yeratta Jetty has been in a severely deteriorated condition for several years. As an interim arrangement, a temporary pontoon was provided for boat berthing and passenger movement. However, the temporary facility continues to be used even after several years, despite regular passenger movement between Yeratta, Long Island and nearby areas.
With around three boat services operating daily, a large number of residents and passengers depend on this route. Rao said that boarding and disembarking through the temporary pontoon can be difficult and may become risky during high tide, rough weather and adverse sea conditions.
He has requested the PMB to conduct an immediate site inspection and initiate the process for reconstruction of the existing jetty or construction of a new permanent jetty on priority. He also sought proper interim safety arrangements until the permanent facility is completed.
Mr. Rao further highlighted the growing tourism potential of Long Island, stating that safe and modern jetty infrastructure will play a crucial role in improving passenger connectivity and supporting the island’s future tourism development.
