Mayabunder, Sept. 1: Our Rights Organization has raised concerns over the prolonged absence of a permanent Medical Superintendent at Dr. R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder, North & Middle Andaman, stating that the situation is affecting the smooth administrative functioning of the hospital and could have an impact on healthcare delivery to the public.
In a letter dated September 1, 2026, Mr. Poovarasan, District Secretary, Our Rights Organization, North & Middle Andaman District, wrote to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), A & N Administration; the Secretary (Health), A & N Administration; and the Director, Directorate of Health Services, A & N Administration, seeking the immediate appointment of a regular and permanent Medical Superintendent at Dr. R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder.
The organization stated that several public complaints had been received regarding the absence of a permanent Medical Superintendent at the hospital for a prolonged period. According to the representation, the continued vacancy is reportedly affecting the smooth administrative functioning of the hospital.
The letter pointed out that official correspondence, administrative decisions, coordination and other important hospital-related matters are being hampered due to the absence of a permanent Medical Superintendent. It expressed concern that the situation could ultimately affect the delivery of essential healthcare services to the general public dependent on the hospital.
Dr. R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder, serves a significant population in North & Middle Andaman, and the organization said the people of the area are genuinely concerned over the prolonged vacancy. It urged the authorities to address the matter at the earliest in the larger public interest.
The Our Rights Organization requested the Health authorities to take immediate cognizance of the issue and post or appoint a regular and permanent Medical Superintendent at the hospital at the earliest possible opportunity. It also sought necessary steps to ensure that the hospital’s official correspondence, administration, coordination and day-to-day functioning are not adversely affected. The organization further urged the administration to give due priority to the healthcare interests and genuine concerns of the people of Mayabunder and surrounding islands.
