Port Blair, June 14: The Member of Parliament of Andaman Nicobar Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma on 14th June, 2023 called on the Commander-in-Chief of Andaman Nicobar Command, Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan and discussed several important issues concerning the Islanders’ welfare.
During the meeting, Shri Sharma emphasized the importance of fostering patriotism among the youths by organizing regular visits of school and college students to Defence ships, submarines and other defence establishments. He said that such initiatives will not only instil a sense of national pride but also inspire students to consider joining the defence forces. Additionally, this will enhance their understanding and knowledge of the defence forces.
Recognizing the robust healthcare system in place in Andaman Nicobar Command, the Member of Parliament urged the Commander-in-Chief to organize regular health camps in remote islands. By providing specialist treatment at the doorstep of the people in these areas, it will ensure access to quality healthcare for the residents of remote villages.
Furthermore, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma proposed the organization of coaching camps for Island students for various competitive exams. To achieve this, he suggested engaging the services of highly educated wives of defence officers. This initiative would greatly benefit the students of Andaman Nicobar Islands, offering them valuable guidance and support in preparing for competitive examinations.
Addressing the recruitment challenges faced by Andaman Nicobar Command, the Member of Parliament highlighted the issue of a significant percentage of employees, who are recruited from Visakhapatnam, leaving their positions in ANC in search of better opportunities on mainland India. To combat this problem, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma requested the Commander-in-Chief to conduct apprentice training for local youths. This initiative aims to provide job opportunities for the local population and encourage them to stay in Andaman Nicobar Islands to contribute to the development of the region.
The Member of Parliament expressed his gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief for the productive discussion and their commitment to addressing these important issues.
