Port Blair, Feb 10:The Primary Health Centre (PHC) Wimberlygunj, Andaman, is facing a major issue due to unavailability of ambulance drivers during the time of need. The Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat Wimberlygunj, Venkat Ram Babu, has written a complaint to the Secretary of Health Services, highlighting the concerns of the local people who are dependent on the PHC for medical services.
According to Venkat Ram Babu, the lack of an ambulance driver, particularly in the night hours, is causing difficulties for patients in critical conditions who are unable to reach the PHC on time. The PHC is located in a remote area and serves several remote villages of the South Andaman region.
In light of this issue, Venkat Ram Babu has requested the Andaman administration to take necessary action and provide a dedicated ambulance driver for the PHC Wimberlygunj. He also suggested that the administration could provide employment opportunities to the local youths who are good at driving and are currently unemployed.
According to a senior officer of the Department of Health Services, who spoke to Andaman Sheekha on the condition of anonymity, there are two drivers posted at the PHC Wimberlygunj – one permanent staff and another one isthe DRM staff. However still people have issues with availability of Driver and hence the matter has already been brought to the attention of the Director of Health Services.
