Diglipur, Oct 14: Bad roads do not make interesting news in Andamans as almost in every Island, roads are in horrible shape and local media houses are tired of publishing news about Islands’ bad road. But the road to Bamboo Tikry area of Diglipur Island has special significance.
The road sends shivers down the spines of even well experienced Heavy Vehicle Drivers. Already atleast two cargo trucks had turned turtle while crossing the Bamboo Tikry road, while dozens of other trucks had suffered breakdown.
When Andaman Sheekha team reached the spot it was found that the road has a sleep slope of nearly 100 mtrs. At the middle of the slope the road is again flat for few metres and on that part a large portion of road has subsided, for reasons unknown.
To drive uphill drivers, drive their trucks in maximum possible speed but because of this damaged portion, the trucks either suffer severe damage or bounce dangerously. In many cases the truck drivers loses control and the truck start sliding backward. Nearly two months back one such cargo truck had turned turtle when the driver faced similar situation.
The condition of the road is same since nearly last two years and the matter has already brought to the knowledge of the APWD officials but till now no action has been taken.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted APWD officials one of the senior officer, has confirmed that the matter is in the knowledge of APWD.
“Probably it would take nearly four more months to repair the road,” said the Engineer on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, Truck Drivers told Andaman Sheekha Correspondent that the condition of the road is deteriorating further. Hope the APWD will be able to repair the said before some truck driver gets himself killed, because of the bad road.
