Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 22: The Secretary of Health, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, conducted a dedicated inspection visit to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Rangat on October 21, 2026, as part of a comprehensive tour of health centres and hospitals across North and Middle Andaman District. She arrived at CHC Rangat at around 3:30 PM and undertook a detailed assessment of the available medical facilities, infrastructure and areas requiring immediate attention.
During the inspection, the Secretary carefully examined the existing facilities and took note of both the services available and the shortcomings affecting healthcare delivery. She also held discussions with Rangat Zilla Parishad Member Mr. Tapas Roy, who highlighted several public grievances and pressing issues concerning the functioning of CHC Rangat and the healthcare system in the region.
After listening to the concerns raised by the Zilla Parishad Member, the Secretary took several important issues into consideration on priority. These included the procurement of a dialysis machine, expediting the procurement of a thyroid testing machine, and separating the male and female wards to improve patient facilities and privacy.
The immediate maintenance of the children’s ward was also highlighted as an important requirement. The Secretary further took note of the need to expedite the tendering process for renovation of the inpatient block, along with the installation of an incinerator machine and construction of the required building. The construction of a retaining wall to protect the inpatient block from soil sliding and land subsidence was another major issue discussed during the visit.
Apart from these priority requirements, the Secretary took note of other issues raised during the interaction and assured that they would receive due consideration for the benefit of the general public.
During the meeting, Mr. Tapas Roy also requested the provision of a new ambulance for CHC Rangat, pointing out that the frequency of patient referrals to higher medical facilities was considerable. Responding to the request, the Secretary assured that steps would be taken towards the procurement of a new ambulance to strengthen emergency and referral services in the area.
The Secretary also informed that the transfer order for the posting of a laboratory assistant at PHC Long Island had already been issued. In another important update concerning diagnostic services, she stated that the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) would issue a duty roster for the ultrasonography doctor for the entire year, ensuring visits at intervals of once every 15 days.
The inspection visit concluded on a positive note, with discussions focusing on addressing infrastructure gaps, improving diagnostic facilities and strengthening healthcare services for residents of Rangat and surrounding areas. Mr. Tapas Roy expressed his gratitude to the Secretary for undertaking the dedicated visit to North and Middle Andaman District and for giving due attention to the healthcare-related concerns raised during the inspection.
