Port Blair, July 24: As part of the 66th Vanamahotsava “Tree planting ceremony” was organised in the premises of Govt Senior Secondary School Rangat on today the 24th July 2015 with the support of Forest Department Rangat M Andaman. Shri. Amit Anand IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Rangat and Shri.Sushen Mallick, Deputy Education Officer, Rangat graced the occasion and planted the fruit bearing saplings namely sapota,guava, Mango and Jack fruit etc., alongside the school campus. Besides the Principal of the Institution Smti.Rita Banerjee, the Senior most teachers, students and forest officials also planted saplings in and around the school campus.
Addressing the function the chief guest Shri.Amit Anand IFS pointed out that trees are necessary for a clean environment and it is the need of the hour. He advised the students to come forward to protect the forest wealth.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Education Officer Rangat Shri.Sushen Mallick highlighted the significance of forest and the medicinal plants which would prove beneficial for each and every individual. He said that we are more concerned about taking advantage from the forest but are not concerned about planting trees. We should change our mind set. He urged the teachers and students to keep the environment clean and green.
In her welcome address, the Principal, GSSS Rangat Smti. Rita Banerjee highlighted the importance of environment and forest and briefed about the various activities being carried out during the 66th Vanamahotsava celebration at GSSS Rangat.
Eralier, the students of this Institution presented a welcome song. An interaction session was also arranged for the students with the chief guest. The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri.Brinda Pandey, PGT GSSS Rangat.
