Port Blair, July 24: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, CIARI, Nimbudera has organized a three days training programme from 22/07/15 to 24/07/15 on ‘Scientific Nutritious Kitchen Garden’ for practicing farmwomen at Betapur, Middle Andaman. The training was inaugurated by Shri. Sarvana, Sarpanch Betapur. In his inaugural speech he lauded the efforts of ICAR-CIARI for establishing a krishi vigyan Kendra exclusively for farming community of N & M Andaman.
He also urged the participants to utilize the techniques and knowledge imparted in different training activities conducted by KVK and emphasized on growing fruits and vegetables in the backyard of their houses for self consumption.
Dr. Pooja kapoor, SMS (Home Science) briefed about the objectives of the training programme and highlighted on the importance and need of Nutritious Kitchen Garden which will not only provide fresh, organic fruits and vegetables but it will also help in achieving nutritional security for all. Shri D. Basantia, SMS (Horticulture) discussed about the layout and cultivation of suitable horticultural crops in kitchen garden. Dr. Shardul. V. Lal, SMS (Animal Sci.) briefed the gathering on preparation of vermicompost from farm waste and its application in kitchen garden. Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agril. Engg.) discussed about different irrigation and water management practices required in maintaining kitchen garden.
A total of 34 farmwomen benefitted from the training programme. The training was organised under the guidance of Dr. Nagesh Ram, Programme Co-ordinator, KVK, Port Blair and under the supervision of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
Earlier, Dr. Shardul V. Lal, SMS (Animal Science) welcomed the Chief Guest and the participants where as Shri. B.L Meena SMS (Agronomy) proposed the vote of thanks.
