
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25: Drug abuse continues to pose a serious threat to individuals, families, and society at large. Substance addiction adversely affects physical and mental health, often leading to broken families, financial distress, criminal activities, and the loss of productive potential among youth. The social consequences of drug abuse extend beyond the individual, impacting community safety, public health, and overall social harmony. Recognizing these challenges, South Andaman Police has been actively conducting awareness programmes to educate citizens about the dangers of narcotic substances and to encourage collective action towards building a safer, healthier, and drug-free society.
As part of the ongoing Anti-Drug Awareness Week, South Andaman Police conducted a series of awareness programmes, rallies, and sports activities across the district to promote a drug-free society and strengthen community participation in the fight against drug abuse.
PS Ograbraj organized an awareness programme at Chouldari Market and a friendly volleyball match at Namunaghar, sensitizing the public on the dangers of drug abuse while promoting healthy recreational activities.
PS Chatham conducted an awareness programme and rally at Haddo, while PS Pahargaon organized a similar programme and rally at Bathubasti, spreading awareness about the harmful effects of narcotics and encouraging community vigilance.
At Hut Bay, PS Hut Bay organized a friendly football match between police personnel and local youth, promoting sports as a positive alternative to substance abuse.
On 25th June, PS Humfrygunj organized a 6-km Youth Awareness Marathon from Humfrygunj Junction to Dhanikari Junction and back, drawing enthusiastic participation from youth, the public, and police personnel. The event concluded with an Anti-Drug Pledge reaffirming the commitment towards a drug-free society.
