Port Blair, Jan 23: All study and no play makes students dull. It seems that this year the Education Department has decided to produce dull students from all the schools as this year all the schools have been directed by the Director of Education not to conduct Annual Sports before March 2013.
“Every year children wait for annual sports day eagerly, which is usually organized in the Month of January or February beginning but this year there won’t be any Annual Day it seems,” said an angry parent of Billyground.
Incharge of remote schools are also puzzled with this office order in this regard. “I have no idea what is going on. Here parents and students are waiting for Annual Sports Day and from Port Blair we got directions that before March we should not conduct Annual sports Day,” said a senior officer of Education Department who does not want his name to be quoted.
When contacted the Director of Education Department Mr. R Devdas clarified that the Annual Day has not been banned but only postponed.
He said that in Port Blair some parents have complained that because of events like Annual Day the studies are getting hampered and hence the Administration, and not the Education Department, has decided to conduct Annual Sports in the Month of March every year.
“Calendar of activities should be prepared in such a manner that all activities are completed before December every year. This year if any school, did not conduct Annual Day before December it is their fault. But now they can plan it after Annual Exam.
But parents argue that conduct of Annual Day after March will carry no meaning as after board exam Class XII students won’t come back to School for the Annual Day and same will be case with Class X Students.
“What is the point of organizing Annual Day of a School when 15 to 20 percent students won’t even attend it. If such decisions were taken long back then why all schools were not intimated about it in advance,” another parent added.
