Port Blair, June 21: The Non Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A & N Islands register its strong protest over the unprecedented hike in the price of petrol and diesel. The Association pointed out that the Oil companies have increased the prices of petrol and diesel in a row for the 15th day today resulting a price hike of nearly rupees 8 and 9 respectively per litre. As on today petrol price is at a 19-month high whereas diesel price has touched a new life time high level when international petroleum price is hovering at 40 dollar per barrel. Earlier, on 10th May 2020, the Govt. of India had imposed an additional excise duty of Rs 10 on petrol and Rs 13 on diesel. The ongoing price rise is in addition to this additional excise duty.
When the nation is in the midst of the fight against the Pandemic Covid-19, common people are struggling for their survival. In such a situation the drastic increase in fuel price just to compensate losses of oil companies incurred during the lockdown period is unnecessary and surely increase the insecurity and sufferings of people. People including employees and workers were reeling under inflation and price rise and this daily increase in fuel price will put more burden on them.
The Non Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association demands immediate review of existing pricing policy of petrol and diesel and withdrawal of additional excise duty introduced from 10th May,2020.
