Port Blair, Dec 15: YUVA has been launched by A&N Police to engage youths in constructive activities and capacity building and planning a series of different innovative activities in order to divert the mind of youth from illegal/evil activities. As such, on 14th December, 2019, a trekking has been organized to Mt. Harriet from Panighat Jetty, Bambooflat.
During the trek, around 65 participants aged between 15 to 20 years from various schools, colleges including schools/colleges drop-outs, community youths also took part. After reaching Mt. Harriet, the participants had an interactive session about Drug abuse and its ill-effects. Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District, Mr. Manoj C., IPS emphasized the need for good health and good habits along with the need for cooperation of youth in tackling drug menace. Superintendent of Police, Security & Traffic, Mr. Anant Mittal, IPS also discussed how to channelize the energies of the youth in the right direction and their future responsibilities towards the Islands and the Nation.
The event was coordinated by JNRM Professor Mr. Venkateshan and Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bambooflat, Mr. Narra Chaitanya, IPS, both of them answered the queries of the young participants from Socio-cultural and legal perspectives. The event facilitated close interaction of young participants with local Police and IRBn personnel across ranks.
