Port Blair, Oct 31: Today on 31st October 2019, the 35thMartyrdom Day of Smti. Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India was observed by Pradesh Congress Committee. Several programme in the memory of Smti. Indira Gandhi were held at various Blocks of Congress Committee throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
At Port Blair the programme commenced at 9:30 AM with garlanding the statue of the Iron Lady Smti. Gandhi at Indira Bhawan, Aberdeen Bazar by Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the President, Pradesh Congress Committee and Member of Parliament, A&N Islands and Mr. Sanjay Rauth, Secretary, All India Congress Committee which was followed by floral tribute by the senior leaders, PRI members, Municipal Councillors, leaders of Frontal Organisation of the party and the general public. A two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect to the great martyr and thereafter pledge on National Integrity was administered by Mr. Sanjay Rauth, Secretary, All India Congress Committee to the people gathered for the occasion.
Thereafter Mr. Sharma, PCC President and Mr. Rauth, AICC appointed Observer for the occasion along with the leaders of Congress Party attended function organised in the memory of Smti. Gandhi by the Block Congress Committeeof Port Blair North Block, Port Blair South Block, Protharapur Block, Garacharma Block, Humfrygunj Block, Tushnabad Block, Ferrargunj Block, Wimberllygunj Block and Bambooflat Block. Also at Tsunami shelter, Mithakhadi a seminar on Nation Integration was organised by the Tushnabad Block Congress Committee where Mr. Sharma Member of Parliament, Mr. Rauth, Secretary, AICC and other leaders delivered lectures on the contributions made by Smti. Indira Gandhi for National building.The speakers opined that Smti. Gandhi has dedicated her entire life for the welfare of the people of the County and she never compromised with the National interest and could never be intimidated by the Super-Powers. The development which we see in India today is the contribution and foresightedness of Smti. Indira Gandhi. Fighting for the social cause, integrity and for the pride of India she sacrificed her life.
To mark the occasion of 35thMartydom day of Smti. Indira Gandhi functions were organised by the Block Congress Committees of Middle & North Andaman and Nicobar District at various public Places.
