Port Blair, August 30: To reduce the academic gap between school education and university
level higher education, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Regional Centre, Port Blair has made an attempt. During
summer vocation, as an academic enrichment activity, the school children (9-12th std.) have been motivated to participate in Essay Writing Competition on the topic ““Distance Education Opportunities in Andaman & Nicobar Islands”. Accordingly, from 9-12 standard, 169 students from Vivekananda Kendra Zilla Parishad Vidyalaya, Diglipur, Port Mout, GSSS- Rangachang, Govt. Model Sr. Secondary School, Port Blair, Ummat Public School, Austinabad, MES Secondary School, KV-I, KV-2, GSS- Junglighat, GSS- Garacharma, GGDMS(Sec.), Middle Point, Port Blair, Govt. Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya, Port Blair, Nirmala Senior Secondary School, Port Blair, Govt. Girls Sr. Secondary School and GSS- Dairy Farm have participated in the competition. The Principals of the concerned schools will be participating in this
programme. All Students who have participated in the competition will be attending the function along with their parents, relatives/friends to receive the awards and Certificates.
The special Prize distribution function of the Essay Writing Competition will be held on Sunday, 1st September, 2019 at the Anthropological Survey of India Auditorium, Port Blair at 10.30 am. The Dy. Director (Personal), Directorate of Education Mr Mamon Thomas will be the Chief Guest of the function.
