Port Blair, June 27: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has taken up the matter with the A&N Administration requesting to resolve the power crises at Baratang by enhancing the power generation capacity of the existing power house at Baratang, since the villagers and other commercial establishments are suffering in their daily activities on account of prolong period of power disruption due to load shedding daily.
In his letter dated 22.06.2019 addressed to Secretary (Power), A&N Administration, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, MP has emphasized that the existing DG set having capacity of 325 KVA was installed during 1995 when the size of population and other govt. establishment was very limit, which are now grown up and as a result, there is acute shortage of power supply to the general consumers, government establishments and other commercial establishments in Baratang area.
Mr. Sharma said load shedding for many hours in a day on account of inadequate power production capacity has led to suffering of villagers/consumers in their daily activities, besides badly affecting education of the children.
Mr. Sharma further stated that Baratang is also one of the tourist destinations but due to power crises, tourist also are found avoiding their night stay in Baratang and this is adversely affecting tourism industry.
Hence, in order to overcome power crises and frequent load shedding in Baratang area, the Member of Parliament Mr. Sharma has urged the Administration for suitable augmentation of power generation capacity at Baratang power house at the earliest.
