Port Blair, June 12: Collapse of Thoratang bridge has raised serious questions over smooth movement of ATR Traffic. Although TV Kulam Bailey Bridge over TV Kulam nallah is an alternative for the ATR traffic but many doubts whether the TV Kulam Bridge can handle heavy Tippers and fully loaded ATR buses.
When contacted the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai said that he has already informed the Manger of NHIDCL in Andaman, Mr. Manoj Kumar Verma about this accident and Mr. Verma has proceeded to Thoratang with assess the situation.
Mr. Rai said that for ATR there is another alternative route for this stretch via TV Kulam Area of Middle Andaman and hence there is no traffic jam after this accident. “We are waiting for the reply from NHIDCL,” the DC said.
The TV Kulam alternative road from CFO nallah area to Billyground via TV Kulam will make ATR journey 6-7 KM longer but atleast this alternative route will be of great use for everyone using ATR.
Meanwhile public of the region says that this is high time for Administration to think of constructing a RCC bridge like Lauki Nallah Bridge in the place of the present bailey bridge of Thoratang and also at TV Kulam, so that incidents like this is never repeated again.
