Bishnu blames New Bharath for power crisis, demands penalty

Port Blair, July 26: It seems that power crisis will continue to haunt residents of South Andaman for some more months. For this power outage the Member of Parliament Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray today targeted the New Bharath and demanded the administration to charge penalty from the company.
The MP today said that New Bharth is supposed to supply 5MW power to Electricity Department but instead the company is supplying only 2MW power because of which the islanders are suffering heavily.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the Executive Engineer Mr. R. P. Singh told that the New Bharath has commissioned 5MW DG sets one by one and they also have a standby DG set too.
“But the 3 DG sets, of nearly 1.2MW each, are having some minor problems, one of the DG set of New Bharath is having some problem in the turbo charger which has already reached here and the 2nd DG set is having problem with its rectifier which is on the way and the valo of the third DG set suffered some damage and the standby DG set is having some major problem, which has to be replaced by the company and it will take time,” he said adding that “I have spoken to the New Bharath and they have assured me that within this week they will be supplying full 5MW power.”
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Biji George told that the ship GATI has already sailed with spare parts required for the repair of SPCL’s sick DG set and within the first week of August it will be operational, but for repair works for the second DG set of 5MW may take another one month.
When contacted the power incharge of New Bharath Mr. Pillai told Andaman Sheekha that none of DG sets has got commercial approval yet. “We are just running it on trial basis and for the public of A&N Islands who are facing severe power crisis,” he added.
According to sources it has also been learnt that SPCL and Some other power Stations are suffering due to lack of communication from the side of New Bharath. “They don’t put in the knowledge of other power stations before shutting down any of its engine and because of this the DG sets of other power stations get more pressure, resulting in sudden shut down of already running DG Sets.
It seems that nothing is on the right track in Electricity Department. There is ego clash, business interest, communication gap, un-professionalism etc etc and this is the main reason behind present power crisis. Perhaps, more than these DG sets, entire Electricity Department need a total overhauling.
