Port Blair, Jan 15: Several temporary shelters built for Tsunami victims after 2004 tsunami, have been converted into Government Quarters by Administration and teachers have been allotted these quarters.
According to reports due to lack of total maintenance, teachers living in these poultry form type quarters are suffering heavily.
According to reports, a few days back the entire ceiling of one of the quarters at Mill Dera, Kapanga Area of Katchal, had collapsed but even after complaint the JE concerned of the area did not sent men to repair the ceiling. In fact when the Assistant engineer of the area was informed, the repair work immediately started.
It is claimed that around two months back these shelters were repaired and collapse of entire ceiling shows how good were the repair works. Luckily no one suffered any injury in that accident.
People living in the area alleged that these temporary shelters lack even basic amenities like Kitchen Table or even a wash basin.
The shelters built for Tsunami victims have been anyhow converted into government quarters and given to teachers and most surprisingly for this quarters the House Rent Allowances are also deducted from the salary of these teachers.
The question is when the administration is deducting HRA for these kind of quarters then why the same Administration can’t ensure proper maintenance and repair of these government quarters.
Adding to the suffering, negligent attitude of the Junior Engineer of the area is also leaving people of the area fuming. Hope that the Administration will take immediate action in this regard and at least provide safe accommodation to government servants, who have been serving in difficult areas.
