Port Blair, Sept 20: The Traffic Police Unit is going to aware the general public at Bhathubasthi and Junglighat using 25 IRBn Jawans at both the major traffic congestions areas of the city for next 10 days.
Addressing a press conference at the conference hall of District Police, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr M Umar said that even after all necessary efforts the traffic police unit has seen almost no improvement in the general public taking safety measures on the road.
He said that the traffic police unit till date has imposed fine of Rupees Sixty Five Lakhs Sixty Nine Thousand to the general public which is 16 lakhs more compared to last year but even though the traffic police unit has not got any good response from the general public and thus the traffic police unit is now going to take some major initiatives just to create awareness among the people.
Targeting the Port Blair Municipal Council the DySP Traffic said that a number of letters has been written to the PBMC for solving the cattle menace on roads but till date no steps has been taken by the PBMC to solve this issue, therefore the traffic police unit is now planning to solve the issue of cattle menace on road by themselves.
The DySP Traffic further also targeted the APWD for not yet transferring all the 32 Parking Places to the PBMC because of which the parking places are not yet auctioned which indirectly is leading to obstructive parking.
Mr M Umar further added that on trial basis the traffic police unit on 1st October from 5pm to 8pm is going to stop all the vehicles to enter the Aberdeen Bazaar.
Replying to a question about aged Traffic Police Constables, the DySP Traffic said that there are certain problems because of aged constables as they cannot stand in a point for very long hours etc but he maintained that there is no problem even after having aged constables in Traffic Police Unit.
Lastly the DySP traffic urged the general public to park their vehicles at a parking place without disrupting the traffic movement and also urged the general public to take all safety measure while on road.
