Port Blair, May 26: When it’s about voluntarily assisting others in distress, citizens of no other State of UT can match the people of these islands. Hours after Andaman Sheekha published the story of Goutami Roy, who topped the islands in the Arts stream of CBSE Class XII exams this year, struggling financially to pursue her higher studies, this office was flooded with calls from people who offered to help the student.
Even the Adhyaksha of South Andaman Zilla Parishad, while congratulating Goutami Roy and her mother, offered all possible assistance to help her study Law.
Above all the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands has asked Gautami Roy to meet him on Tuesday.
The Andaman Sheekha in its edition on May 26, 2016, published that Goutami Roy, student of Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya, who 92.60 percent to top the examinations in the Arts stream this year, was struggling to gather finance to pursue her dream career in Law.
She was just 21 days old when she lost her father. With no other option, her mother Sushma Roy began working as a domestic help for livelihood as also to support her daughter’s education. But Goutami, who aced the CBSE exams and attributes her success to her mother, now faces a tough challenge in continuing higher studies owing to financial crunch.
While Administration may extend some support in admission for the topper. Andaman Sheekha hopes that some of the assurances from fellow Islanders convert into actual financial help so that Gautami Roy can meet all the expenses of staying in Mainland India for studying Law.
People willing to offer financial assistance to Goutami Roy can call the family over her mother’s (Susma Roy) phone numbers 9679567489 or Editor Andaman Sheekha 9932082892.
