Port Blair, Apr 18: The elected representatives of Port Blair Municipal Council today clarified that they had no knowledge about the PBMC Secretary’s FIR and arrest of Political Leaders in ‘Cattle Pound’ case, which has created a ripple in these Islands.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the Chairperson of PBMC, Mrs. Firdosh Bibi and the Sr. Vice Chairperson of PBMC, Mr. K Ganeshan today clarified that PBMC is not responsible for whatever is happening.
“During every meeting the Lt Governor and the Chief Secretary tell us to deal with the cattle menace strictly as because of cattle roaming on roads people are facing problems. This is the reason why PBMC has increased the fine from Rs. 500 to Rs. 800. We are providing fodders to all cattle in cattle pounds,” K Ganeshan the Sr. Vice Chairperson of PBMC said.
When asked whether the PBMC supports the move of Police Department to arrest the politicians Mr. Ganeshan said that “I am neither opposing nor supporting the arrest. Infact inside the council I support the move of Secretary PBMC but outside PBMC as politician I oppose these arrests.”
When asked whether damaging the doors of Cattle Pound is justified, the Sr. Vice Chairperson said that the door was damaged by general public and not by the politicians. “This is wrong from the side of Police Department to arrest politicians in this case,” he added.
Regarding today’s Dharna of BJP, the Sr. Vice Chairperson said that the words used by BJP workers against PBMC, councilors and the Secretary PBMC are unparliamentary. “Police should file criminal case against them for using such unparliamentary words.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the Councillor of Ward Number 5 Mr. Murgan has been arrested by the Police Department this morning from Port Blair Airport in the same case. According to highly placed sources some more arrests are also possible by tomorrow.
