Port Blair, Apr 18: The Bharatiya Janta Party today organized a Dharna infront of the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) protesting against the move of PBMC to file a police complaint against a BJP leader, which resulted in his arrest on Monday.
C H Babu, the City President of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) was arrested for damaging government properties and decoity. Babu, along with others allegedly broke the doors of Lambaline Cattle Pound of Port Blair city and forcefully released 15 odd cattle, illegally.
Following this a police complaint was lodged against Babu and few others by the Secretary of PBMC on Saturday last and two Political leaders Mr. Bhima Rao, General Secretary of City Congress Committee and Mr. C H Babu, City President, A & N State Bharatiya Janta Party.
BJP workers today shouted slogans and delivered angry speeches infront of the PBMC building at Port Blair and demanded immediate withdrawal of the case against C H Babu, whose wife, Mrs. Varalakshmi, is a sitting BJP councillor of from Ward Number 9 of PBMC.
“We strongly protest against the serious and fabricated complaints made by the Secretary, PBMC to the Police officials against Mr. CH Babu, the City President of our State Unit. We also protest against the arrest of the Mr. Babu under non-bailable offence without any investigation and inquiry,” R Mohan, the President of A & N State BJP unit told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
Raising issue of the poor conditions of cattle pound Mohan questioned that “When many reputed organisations are working for the welfare of the cattle and raising voice against the mental and physical tortures on the cattle how the Secretary PBMC is running cattle pounds without any proper facilities of providing healthy food, medical attendants etc.”
Mohan demanded immediate withdrawal of the complaint made by Secretary PBMC against Mr. C H Babu and also better facilities for cattle inside cattle pounds of PBMC.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray has also expressed his anger on this issue. “I demand that there should be no more arrest in this case and immediate release of arrested persons,” the MP added.
Meanwhile the Elected representatives of Port Blair Municipal Councils has clarified that they were totally unaware about any such complaint made by the Secretary of PBMC.
“We had no information about any such complaint, lodged by the Secretary PBMC or any arrest. It’s only after arrest of two local politicians, who are husband of two lady councillors we got information about this development,” K Ganeshan the Sr. Vice Chairperson of PBMC told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
