Port Blair, Apr 19: The office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, Handicrafts Marketing Service Extension Centre, Port Blair has organized a one day local level marketing workshop on handicrafts of A&N Islands at Port Blair on 19.04.2012 to discuss various issues/problems being faced by the artisans of A&N Islands.
The workshop was inaugurated by Shri S.K. Halder, Joint Secretary cum General Manager, DIC, Port Blair in the presence of Shri M.N.Murali, Director, Directorate of Industries on 19.04.2012. During the workshop the following officers were participated . Shri V.A.Ragavan, Manager, NABARD, Shri Arindam Das, Branch Manager, LIC, Shri S.H.K.Murthi, Dy.Conservator of Forest (Planning), Shri S.C. Dey, Assistant Director Fisheries (Trg) and Shri A.K.Bhattacharjee, Advisor, A&N Consultancy Organisaion, Port Blair.
About 80 artisans from different crafts were participated and interacted with the above officers. It has been informed that the various problems raised by the artisans will be looked into and solve within the policy guidelines of the Govt. of India. The welcome address has been given by Shri PS Mahalingam, Assistant Director (Handicrafts) HMSEC, Port Blair.
