Port Blair, Sept 16: The Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works has planned a new jetty for upcoming tourist hotspot Neil Island, which is now nearly 50 years old.
Talking to media persons at Port Blair, Vimal Sinha the Chief Engineer of Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW) has said that the ALHW has already submitted a proposal to the Andaman and Nicobar Administration for this purpose and once the project is cleared the construction work will begin.
“We have to construct the approach and the berthing place. As the approach is too long, which is 300 mtrs, the project cost will be 22 crores, however the project cost of the approach is only 6 crores,” Sinha added. Other than this the ALHW has also submitted another project of beautification of Neil Island, which is also waiting for sanction.
The picturesque Jetty of Neil Island was built in 1965 with wooden approach, which was later replaced with concrete one, in early 1980s. Neil Island is an island in the Andaman Islands of India, located in Ritchie’s Archipelago. Named after James George Smith Neil, the Neil
Island, is the next big name of Andaman’s Tourism Industry, after Havelock Island.
