Port Blair, Sept 16: Marking International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer on 16.09.2014, ANCOL ECO CLUB OF ANDAMAN COLLEGE, Haddo, Port Blair organized various events to raise awareness among college students regarding environmental changes. The theme for this year is “Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On”.
Earlier Principal of the college Dr R Dev Das highlighted on the importance of the observance of the day. He said that the depletion of ozone layer causes irrevocable damage to all living things on the planet and stressed upon his view that the day also serves as a reminder to decision makers and the public on the need to protect the Ozone layer that serves as a shield and safeguards the earth and the lives of humans. Principal appealed to each and every student and faculty of the college for getting themselves involved in some sort of action which can in turn protect our mother nature.
In slogan writing competition, the slogan written by Vishal of Music Department was declared as the best slogan.
Earlier to create awareness among the students on the dangers of carbon emissions that pose threat to the environment, an Ozone related quiz competition was conducted by Shri Bency Joy, Eco Club Incharge of the College. The team comprising of S Naveen , Vijay Bahadhur, Neelam Kumari & C G Shruti of Sociology Department were declared as the winners while Vasudev & Group from English Department were declared as the runner ups .
