Rangat, 06 Sept: People of North & Middle Andaman are facing harassment in the name of Convoy system for travelling from their home to Port Blair and vise-versa . People have adjusted when the Convoys were reduced from 08 to 04 but their calmness is being tested again and again.
This system doesn’t spare the general public during any natural disaster or serious problem. In an instance on Saturday the public buses, private and owned vehicles halted in Baratang area due to heavy rain for more than 02 hours.
After the rain stopped and road got cleared they somehow reached the Middle Strait Jetty. There was huge rush in Middle strait jetty as all vehicles missed the Convoy of 09.30 am.
The general public requested the O.P. in-charge to arrange special Convoy as there are so many ladies, children’s and 01 patient in SST Bus plying between Rangat to Port Blair. The people reported that they called the S.P. (N&M Andaman) instead of helping the people he told he will look into the matter.
Our Rangat correspondent when called the SHO Baratang to enquire about the matter he told he is arranging the vehicles and will do the needful for the people. The department arranged the Convoy but it was too late that the passenger has to go by the Convoy of 12.30 PM.
During Parliamentary Election 2014 the Convoy system was one of the major issue of every contesting member but after that as the result declared no political leader talk about the issue.
Most of the time due to repair of boat in Kadamtala and Baratang the people cannot avail the desired Convoy and they are compelled to change their entire schedule.
“We don’t demand any type of modification in Convoy system but the higher authorities should look into the difficulties faced by the people in Convoy. The authority should help the people during any kind of disaster or unavoidable situations,” said an angry resident of Rangat.
