Port Blair, Jan 07: Hundreds of Bitumen drums have been left unattended by Andaman Public works Department at New Pahargaon and various other areas. For road construction these drums were dropped in some vacant lands near the road construction sites but surprisingly even after finishing the works these drums were not removed from the site.
At day time due to heat, Bitumen comes out of these drums due to leakages and spread in large area, which ultimately becomes a death trap for livestock.
Everyday one can see livestock struck in these bitumen traps and crying for help. Not only this, this bitumen trap is also dangerous for small kids and vehicles, as well. Bitumen are very costly and such negligence also causes huge loss of tax-payers’ hard earned money.
The APWD must develop some mechanism to remove bitumen from the sites, as soon as the works are over because for APWD’s sheer negligence hundreds of people suffer heavily on daily basis.
