Port Blair, Dec 16: 25 people and three pigs onboard a jam-packed engine dinghy were about to reach Dhani Nallah this morning when a mighty wave turned the dinghy upside down. The dinghy had nearly 20 gunny bags full of rice, packed in plastic, which were floating like balloons in waters. Most of the people, who were struggling in deep water rushed for these gunny bags, a few got hold of wooden planks.
11 years old Sujata Bairaghi was among those 19 survivors, out of 25, who could reach to the shore but Sujata has a different story to narrate. According to Sujata, she was floating with the help of the one of the gunny bags, along with her mother.
Sekhar Biswas, a villager of Shanti Pur village of Swadesh Nagar was also among the those 25 passengers, who were struggling to reach to the shore. But Sekhar Biswas showed tremendous courage and helped Sujata Biswas, the little girl to reach to the shore. After helping Sujata, Sekhar could have easily stay back in shore but terribly tired Sekhar Biwas decided to jump in water again to help Sujata’s mother.
Sadly, Sekhar could not reach upto Sujata’s mother. Infact he was never seen again. Although Sujata’s mother managed to reach to the shore anyhow but Sekhar still remain missing and chances of his survival is very less, everybody knows. Andaman Sheekha salutes the brave youth of Middle Andaman and hope that the Administration will also suitably acknowledge Sekhar’s courage.
