Port Blair, Dec 08: Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee has taken serious concern over the grievances of 69 mazdoors employed in the Directorate of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of AN Administration who after serving the administration and the people of these islands for more than 20 to 25 years are still waiting for permanent employment.
Accordingly the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested Prof. KV Thomas, the Minister of State (independent charge), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, food and public distribution, New Delhi that for maintenance and sustenance of Public distribution system in AN Islands since 1982 onwards the Directorate of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs have been continually engaging 80 odd casual mazdoors/ labours in addition to their regular strength of 107 mazdoors. These 80 odd mazdoors by virtue of being engaged prior to 1993 have been conferred with the status of Temporary Status Mazdoors (TSM) and as and when the vacancies arises due to retirement, promotion, death etc services of these TSMs are regularized under the scheme called “Casual labours (Grant of temporary status and regularization) scheme of Govt of India 1993”. By virtue of this, as on date strength of TSMS has gone reduced to 69.
Detailing about the woe of these TSMs, Kuldeep has further written in his letter that AN Islands being a UT is centrally administered by the Union Govt and as the present subject matter pertains to the Ministry, and requested him that the matter of creation of 69 supernumerary posts of the mazdoors may be taken up expeditiously with the relevant Ministries of the Govt of India by giving due consideration to the Judgment passed by the Hon’ble Division Bench of Calcutta so that the 69 TSMs of Directorate of CS&CA doesn’t retire from the services as TSMs after rendering service till the age of 60 years thereby getting deprived of the social and financial benefits which their regular counterpart avails on induction in government services by performing similar duties.
