Sri Vijayapuram, June 22: A man was detained at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Sri Vijayapuram, for allegedly possessing and using a fake identity card of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to identify himself as a serving personnel. According to an FIR registered at Aberdeen Police Station, the incident occurred on the morning of June 21 when the accused arrived at the airport on an Air India flight along with a female co-passenger.
During a routine check conducted by the Andaman and Nicobar Police Narcotics Team in the arrival area, the individual allegedly introduced himself as a CISF employee and produced a CISF identity card. However, the document appeared suspicious to the police team, raising doubts about its authenticity.
Police sources said that during questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that he had been removed from CISF service in 2019. The CISF personnel subsequently handed over the accused along with the suspected forged identity card to Aberdeen Police Station for further legal action.
The police team also found that the accused, identified as Mr. Haru Das of North 24 Parganas, had a previous criminal record and had reportedly been arrested in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in connection with a drug-related case in 2019. Investigators suspect that the fake CISF identity card may have been used to avoid police checks and scrutiny, although this aspect is being further investigated.
Based on the complaint, Aberdeen Police registered an FIR under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, pertaining to personating a public servant, forgery, and using a forged document as genuine.
Till the filing of this report, the investigation was in progress. Investigations are also underway to ascertain the origin of the forged identity card and whether it had been used on previous occasions to evade law enforcement checks.
