Sri Vijaya Puram, June 18: The Andaman and Nicobar Command celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2026 with enthusiastic participation across its formations and units spread throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Yoga programmes were conducted at operational bases, forward locations, air stations, naval establishments, Coast Guard units and onboard ships, reflecting the spirit of Tri-Service jointness and holistic well-being.
The main event was held at Sri Vijaya Puram, where Maj Gen Ajay Firoze Shah, Chief of Staff, Andaman and Nicobar Command, along with personnel of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, Defence civilians and family members, participated in the Common Yoga Programme. Simultaneously, similar programmes were organised across the Command, from remote island detachments to ships at sea, ensuring widespread observance of the occasion across the geographical expanse of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Conducted under the guidance of trained instructors, the sessions followed the Common Yoga Protocol, reinforcing this year’s International Day of Yoga theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The celebrations promoted physical fitness, mental resilience, emotional well-being and inner discipline while encouraging personnel to adopt yoga as a way of life in both peace and operational environments.
The International Day of Yoga celebrations across the Andaman and Nicobar Command reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the health and wellness of its personnel while demonstrating the unity and integration that define India’s only Tri-Service Command. The widespread observance across the islands showcased the Command’s collective resolve to foster a culture of wellness, discipline and preparedness in the service of the Nation.
