Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 23: The demand for the establishment of a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Namunaghar Gram Panchayat under South Andaman has gained momentum, with residents highlighting the lack of adequate healthcare facilities in the area. Despite a growing population, people are compelled to travel long distances for medical treatment, causing serious inconvenience, especially for the elderly, pregnant women, and critically ill patients.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha daily, Y. Venkateshwar, Pradhan of Namunaghar, said that the population in the area has increased rapidly, with thousands of residents currently living in the region, yet healthcare services remain insufficient. He pointed out that the nearest health centres are located far away, making timely medical assistance difficult. He further added that considering the combined population of nearby areas such as Mithakhari and Brindaban, the need for a centrally located PHC has become even more critical.
He also highlighted the challenging terrain of the region, including hilly areas and surrounding forests, which makes access to distant health centres extremely difficult, particularly during night hours and adverse weather conditions. In such circumstances, the establishment of a local health facility is essential to ensure timely treatment and reduce hardships faced by residents.
He expressed hope that the Administration will take prompt action in this regard to provide necessary healthcare services to the people. A letter has also been submitted to the authorities seeking the establishment of a Primary Health Centre in the area.
