Port Blair, May 26: Incessant rain since Saturday evening has caused havoc in remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Heavy rainfall in this remote territory has caused flooding, land sliding, power line snapping, road blockade and uprooting of trees.
According to reports heavy rainfall flooded Mohanpura, Old Pahargaon, School Line, Corbyn’s cove Junction, RK Mission areas of Port Blair city on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon making movement of vehicles almost impossible.
Heavy rain with Southwesterly wind also uprooted trees and broke tree branches in many areas of Port Blair city like Atlanta Point and Bargat Line.
Other than this according to State Control Room land sliding have been reported from the Haddo Labour Barrack area of Port Blair and Panchayati ATR road of Middle Andaman.
“One family at Billyground and a few families from Togapur 6, Togapur 7 and Togapur 8 village of Middle Andaman were evacuated last night as their area was flooded with rain water,” Mr. Been Mohammed the In-Charge of State Disaster Control Room told Andaman Sheekha today.
According to reports heavy rainfall have also flooded, already tsunami inundated, Jodakilan village of Sippighat, South Andaman this afternoon after which the State Disaster Control Room intimated the matter to the local Police Station for further action.
It has been learnt that on Saturday Night Fire Service Jawans used Gemini boats to rescue seven stranded people from Mohanpura area, which was flooded because of heavy rain and high tide. The Ground flood of Indira Bhawan, the PBMC Headquarter was also inundated with stagnant water.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands have already received 318.6 mm of rainfall since January 2013 but rainfall since last two days was highest.
However, no report of any death or injury has been reported till now because of heavy rain.
