
Sri Vijya Puram, Oct 06: The Forest Training Institute (FTI) organized the inaugural function of a 05 days long Forest Fire Management Training Program today at its Forest Training Institute, Wimberlygunj campus, aimed at enhancing the preparedness and response capacity of forest officers and frontline staff in managing forest fires effectively.
The program was formally inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr.S.Dinesh Kannan, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest (R&WP)-cum- Chairperson, FTI in the presence of other senior officers of the Department and Director, Forest Training Institute. This week long training program is organised for the in service forest executive staffs from all other Forest Divisions and is also attended by the under training Forester trainees, and faculty members of the Institute.
In his welcome address, Shri. Ajit V John, SFS, Director, Forest Training Institute welcomed the participants, outlined the objectives of the training and he also emphasized on the strengthening of skills , knowledge and preparedness in tackling forest fire through these 05 days training program. The program will cover topics such as fire prevention strategies, use of modern fire fighting tools and equipment, fire behaviour analysis, coordination with local communities, and post-fire rehabilitation measures.
In his inaugural address, Dr. S.Dinesh Kannan, IFS emphasized the growing challenges posed by forest fires in the wake of climate change and rising temperatures. He highlighted the importance of training, technology adoption, and community participation in preventing and controlling forest fires. “Forest fire management is not merely an operational task but a critical aspect of ecosystem conservation. Strengthening the skills of our frontline staff is vital for ensuring the safety of forests and wildlife,” he remarked.
The training will also include hands-on field exercises, mock drills, and expert sessions conducted by experienced professionals from the Forest Survey of India, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad, National Disaster Response Force, Police Department, Fire & Emergency Services, and Disaster Management Authority.
The inaugural function concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri. Raju Rathour, Forest Ranger, who appreciated the active participation of all attendees and reiterated the Institute’s commitment in building a skilled and resilient forest workforce capable of addressing environmental challenges effectively.
