
Car Nicobar, Sept. 30: In a significant step towards improving road connectivity and infrastructure in Car Nicobar, the foundation stones for the works under PMGSY-III namely Up gradation of Road from SH-03 to Kinmai, Car Nicobar (Length – 2.250 km, Estimated Cost – Rs.2.63 Cr), SH-03 to Malacca via Japan Road Junction to JNV Junction Arong (Length – 14.014 Km, Estimated Cost – Rs.16.02 Cr), Kakana Junction to APWD Guest House Junction, SBI to SH-03 (Length – 7.146 Km, Estimated Cost – Rs.8.27 Cr) were laid today by Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament in the presence of Shri Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, and Shri T. K. Prijith Rekh, Chief Engineer, Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) at Kinmai, Malacca & Perka, Car Nicobar.
The ceremony was graced by the Chief Tribal Captain of Car Nicobar, Shri Lionel Nicomed alongside several respected tribal leaders and community members marking the importance of the project for the Island’s socio-economic development.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament highlighted the Government’s continued commitment of strengthening rural connectivity in remote Islands. He emphasized that the upgraded roads will provide safer, faster, and more reliable transport, thereby supporting livelihood, education, and healthcare access for the people of Car Nicobar.
Shri T. K. Prijith Rekh, CE, APWD explained the technical aspects of the project, outlining the proposed design, construction standards and measures being adopted to ensure durability and quality. CE assured that the APWD is committed to executing the project with quality and efficiency. The project is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe and will stand as a milestone in the developmental journey of Car Nicobar.
