Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 6: Dr. Dinesh Sharma has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Rashtrapati Bhavan announced the gubernatorial appointment through a press communiqué released late Saturday, September 5. The appointment will officially take effect from the date Dr. Sharma assumes charge of his office.
Speaking to a news agency shortly after the announcement, Dr. Sharma acknowledged the critical geopolitical significance of the archipelago and assured that its strategic development would remain a primary focus. He emphasized that all initiatives would be carried out under the direct guidance of the Central Government.
“The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a strategically important region. My entire effort will be to ensure that, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, we are able to do exemplary work,” Dr. Sharma said.
Describing the appointment as a great privilege and an opportunity to serve, Dr. Sharma expressed his determination to honor the confidence placed in him by the central leadership. “Whatever confidence has been reposed in me by the Prime Minister, I will certainly make every effort to live up to that trust,” he added.
A former educator, Dr. Sharma also highlighted the timing of his appointment, which coincided with National Teachers’ Day. “I was a teacher, and I believe the Prime Minister and the Home Minister have given a gift to teachers across the country on this day,” he remarked.
Dismissing the hierarchy of political postings, he added, “No post is big or small. The real responsibility lies in properly discharging the duties entrusted to a person, irrespective of the nature of the challenge.”
Reflecting on his extensive political background, the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor recalled his administrative experience in Uttar Pradesh, where he worked under the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath. He also noted his formative years in party organization under veteran leaders such as Mr. Kalraj Mishra and the late Kalyan Singh, stating that those experiences have prepared him for this new administrative chapter under the current national leadership.
