Hutbay, Sept. 30:In line with the Chief Secretary’s directive mandating mock drills across all departments of the A&N Administration, a comprehensive mock drill simulating an earthquake followed by a tsunami was conducted at Hut Bay, Little Andaman today. The drill was conducted under the supervision of the Tehsildar, Little Andaman (Incident Commander), and was coordinated with various departments including Health, Fire Services, Revenue, Civil Supplies, CD Block, A&N Police, along with PRI members and participation of the general public.
Emergency protocols were activated at 9.15 AM, triggering a swift and coordinated response. The communication team alerted the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and concerned departments. Fire tenders and ambulances arrived promptly, ensuring timely rescue and medical support.
Evacuation procedures were efficiently carried out, moving residents and staff to elevated safe zones using departmental vehicles. Search and rescue operations were executed in a timely and organized manner, with injured individuals (as per the simulated scenario) receiving immediate first aid from trained personnel. The drill highlighted strong inter-departmental coordination, readiness, and adherence to disaster management protocols.
A debriefing session followed, where the Incident Commander and Block Development Officer reviewed the exercise, commending the proactive participation of all departments. They emphasized areas needing improvement, particularly in resource availability and communication flow, and recommended updating emergency resources to enhance future preparedness.
