
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 24: As part of the ongoing “Swachhta Hi Seva 2025” campaign, a series of cleanliness drives, health check-ups and awareness initiatives were conducted across several Gram Panchayats, aiming to promote hygiene, sanitation and community participation.
Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir was organized at various Gram Panchayats in collaboration with the Health Department to spread awareness on occupational safety, preventive healthcare, proper use of protective equipment, and welfare schemes meant for sanitary workers.
Cleanliness activities were carried out at multiple locations, including:
• Cleanliness Target Unit cleaning at Kalighat Bazar, Ward No. 05, under GP Kalighat.
• Cleanliness Target Unit cleaning at Chouldari, Ferrargunj Block on 19/09/2025, involving 20 sanitary workers and volunteers who performed deep cleaning, scrubbing, and disinfection of public toilets to ensure proper hygiene for community users.
• Cleanliness Target Unit point cleaning at Teylorabad, Ward No. 1, under GP Sippighat, CD Block Prothrapur.
• Cleanliness drive at Gram Panchayat Govind Nagar, Swaraj Dweep, CD Block Prothrapur, with volunteers and Panchayat staff actively cleaning public areas.
• Cleanliness drive at Gram Panchayat Namunaghar, Ferrergunj Block on 19/09/2025, including Cleanliness Target Unit cleaning with 20 sanitary workers and volunteers performing deep cleaning and disinfection.
• Cleanliness drive at Gram Panchayat Ramakrishnagram, which included a roadside jungle cleaning drive where 25 volunteers and Panchayat staff cleared overgrown vegetation, collected plastic and organic waste, and made roads safer and more accessible for residents.
• Community waste management initiatives, including collection and segregation of waste at Harinagar and Jaipur, as well as beach cleaning near Rangachang, conducted in collaboration with NIOT and Pondicherry University.
Under the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, a painting competition was conducted at various school to engage students in highlighting the importance of cleanliness in villages and schools. Furthermore, an awareness programme through Nukkad Natak was performed by the school students of Nimbutala and Shoalbay to promote the sanitation awareness, reaching out not only to local residents but also to the general public, thereby emphasizing collective responsibility in maintaining hygiene and adopting sustainable sanitation practices.
These initiatives reflect the continued commitment of the community, Panchayati Raj institutions, and government departments to instill sanitation values and contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more responsible society.
